Lettering tattoo Amsterdam. Freehand script lettering on forearm by Rot_Priest at Knight of Swords

Freehand script lettering on the forearm by Rot_Priest.

Clients from Germany, Belgium and Czechia book Rot_Priest, one of the few true freehand lettering specialists in the Netherlands, at Knight of Swords.

Freehand gives me full creative control. I can adapt the lettering to the body and tie in older tattoos, so the new piece and the old work become one.”
— Rot_Priest, owner of Knight of Swords Tattoo
AMSTERDAM, NOORD-HOLLAND, NETHERLANDS, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Rot_Priest is a freehand lettering and dark art tattoo artist from the Netherlands, based at Knight of Swords in Amsterdam. Clients regularly travel from Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic for one specialism: lettering drawn freehand, without a stencil, directly on the body. The studio has passed 300 five-star Google reviews.

Most lettering tattoos start as a printed design that is transferred onto the skin. Rot_Priest skips that step. Gothic calligraphy, cursive script and blackletter are drawn by hand on the arm, chest or back, following the shape of the muscle and the way the client stands. He is one of the few true freehand lettering specialists in the Netherlands, with 12+ years of experience.

"A stencil is flat. A forearm is not," says Rot_Priest. "Drawing straight on the skin lets me shape every letter to the muscle, so the lettering moves with you instead of sitting on top of you. It also lets me tie in older tattoos, so the new piece and the old work become one."

Alongside lettering he specialises in horror and dark art, fine line and portraits.

Knight of Swords is a walk-in studio. It is open seven days a week from 11:00 to 22:00 at Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 28, a five-minute walk from Dam Square and ten minutes from Amsterdam Centraal. Walk-in tattoos start at EUR 100, freehand lettering at EUR 150. For visitors who want a surprise, the studio's Spin Machine costs EUR 80: three coins, three spins, keep the design you like best and get it tattooed on the spot. The studio works under GGD-approved hygiene standards and tattoos clients aged 18 and over only.
