Maj. Gen. Paul highlights multinational AEHF cooperation

Royal Canadian Air Force Maj. Gen. Kyle C. Paul, U.S. Space Forces - Space Deputy Combined Joint Force Space Component commander, praised the work of joint warfighters and international partners who provide protected satellite communications during a keynote address to members of the International Partners Advanced Extremely High Frequency Working Group (IPAWG) here, Sept. 24.

The AEHF working group is an O-6 level working group involving U.S. organizations and international partners from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and the U.K.

IPAWG helps coordinate AEHF, a joint service communications system that provides survivable, global, secure, protected and jam-resistant communications for high-priority military ground, sea and air assets.

“These systems are used every day,” said Paul. “These working groups are evidence we collaborate to get the most out of our systems. IPAWG showcases how we put partnership into practice in the space domain.”

Paul highlighted the partners’ work to pool resources, integrate terminals and develop backup locations — practical contributions that support the shared communications network.

He compared the partners to a hockey team whose strength comes from the contributions of every player.

“What we are doing is building depth on our bench,” Paul said. “That is how championships are won and lost.”

Paul called the IPAWG an example for partners working together across other space missions, including missile warning and space control.

As technology and operations evolve, Paul said, the partnership’s foundation remains the people who assure global space effects for joint and multinational forces.

“We are connected by shared purpose,” said Paul.
